We have this friend. We'll call him Ken. Now Ken is not the touristy type. He wants to GO. Ken has been there, done that. Seen it, did it. The one thing, the very one thing, that our friend Ken wants to do is Ride. If Ken is you, then we have just the thing to satiate that tick in your eye. What if we told you there's a strip of mountain range 50 miles wide & 250 miles long we like to go play in. And within this range are numerous twisty mountain roads.

It begins in Napa...
Our tour begins from Napa, California. Best known for wine the world over, Napa is actually the gateway to a low range of mountains we riders simply call the Coast Range. Extending several hundred miles northward, this will be our playground for the next several days.

Our route will cross-cross this range east to west, then back again several times over. These low mountain passes when glued together make for a twisty, dreamy ride!

We start out headed up Hwy 121, through Lake Berryessa and along Knoxville-Berryessa Rd into Lower Lake, then heading southward doubling back to St Helena through the hills and valleys, riding through the heart of our local wine country.

Hopland Grade...

They paved it. You know the stuff, smooth and silky, high-five perfection! Give us an open road with no traffic in sight, and we'll meet you on the other side. A rockin' ride sets up for even more fun as we ride Hopland Grade, then curve along the banks of the Russian River on over to Hwy 253. Then, history repeats! It's another spirited ride to the top of this low pass, then back down the other side into Boonville. We'll stay in Gualala or the night. After all that riding, pounding waves of The Pacific finish out Day 1 just outside our hotel balcony.

Take the boots off! Relax at our hotel after the days ride, you can walk out the back of your room right onto the beach for an evening stroll as the sun goes down over the Pacific Ocean. Crashing waves & pounding surf fill your ears with ocean sound. Forget those noise-maker doohickeys, this is the real deal.

Coast Range x6...

Could we have some more of the same, please? Well, we could cook something up. We bagged three mountain passes yesterday, let's hit up six more today. While the temps are still cool, we'll head inland from Elk on one of the Coast Range's best unknown roads.

Ever heard of Flynn Creek? No one has. But the ride is pure sweetness, and we're going to spank that monkey's ass with it.

If that wasn't fun enough, let us tell you about a mountain pass called Hwy 20. And when you hit it just right? Serves you up a dish of 33 miles of nonstop-twisties. Meet you on the other side. And to round out our morning? That was so fun, let's do it again and make our way back out to the ocean via Branscomb Rd.

The 22-Mile Section...

It doesn't have a fancy name. No one ever seems to bother. We're all too busy riding this strip of road up and over two low coast range passes to the other side. We've been taking tour groups to this strip of road for a decade now, and they all come away in awe, begging to ride it again. The best stretch of road you've ever ridden? Maybe. It is what you make it. What we can say is there are ear-to-ear grins on every rider that has made the trek along the 22-Mile Section of Highway 1.

We'll ride back out to the ocean and spend the night in Shelter Cove, a tiny town on a dead-end road- the last virgin stretch of coastline in California.

Our rooms overlook the ocean, and you'll be able to walk out of your room right onto the beach.

Time to throw back a few and enjoy a special time with fellow riders who think like you, love what you love, and can't wait to be up riding the next morning.
